London-based BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman emphasized the necessity of ensuring accountability for all elected public representatives and government employees, from Union Parishad chairmen to the head of government, during a divisional training workshop held in Faridpur on Saturday.

Speaking virtually at the event, Tarique accused the Awami League of failing to uphold accountability during their extended rule, depriving citizens of voting rights and allowing widespread corruption, including laundering money abroad.

“We aim to establish a corruption-free and terrorism-free Bangladesh with a robust health sector, ensuring no one needs to seek treatment abroad,” he stated.

The workshop, focused on BNP’s 31-point state reform agenda, was attended by about 400 leaders from Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, and Madaripur districts. Tarique reiterated the party’s commitment to a free and fair election, proposing reforms like limiting the prime minister’s tenure to two consecutive terms and implementing changes in phases.

He urged BNP leaders to gain public trust, disseminate lessons from the workshop to grassroots activists, and engage citizens in the party’s vision for a reformed Bangladesh.

The event, presided over by BNP Organizing Secretary for Faridpur Division Shama Obaid, included speeches from senior party figures such as Ismail Zabiullah, Selimuzzaman Selim, and others.
