The government has approved the procurement of 12,80,64,624 textbooks to be distributed free of cost among students of classes IV, V, IX, and X for the 2025 academic year.
The decision was made during the 16th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the interim government on the Ministry of Finance, chaired the meeting.
Following the meeting, Dr. Ahmed announced the approval of three proposals from the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB):
- Class IX Textbooks:
- Volume: 6,28,51,540 copies
- Education Streams: Secondary (Bangla and English versions), Dakhil, and Technical
- Cost: Around Taka 525.34 crore
- Bidders: 211
- Class X Textbooks (Bangla version):
- Volume: 1,00,10,981 copies
- Cost: Around Taka 89.85 crore
- Bidders: 36
- Class IV, V, and X Textbooks:
- Volume: 5,52,02,103 copies
- Education Streams: Ibtedai (4th and 5th class), Secondary (Bangla and English versions), Dakhil, and Technical
- Cost: Around Taka 423.24 crore
- Bidders: 152
