The government has launched a comprehensive nationwide programme to raise public awareness about the forthcoming referendum scheduled for February 12.
As part of the initiative, field-level government officials, religious leaders and prominent representatives of various non-government organisations are being trained to dispel confusion and counter misinformation about the referendum at the grassroots level, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said today.
In this connection, a divisional officers’ conference and an imam conference were held separately in Barishal on Sunday. Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Prof Ali Riaz and Special Assistant Monir Haider delivered training-focused speeches at the events, highlighting key aspects of the referendum.
Similar programmes will be organised in all other divisions across the country in the coming days.
Under the supervision of the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO), Divisional Commissioners’ Offices are conducting training sessions for divisional, district and upazila-level officials, as well as representatives of non-government organisations. At the same time, the Islamic Foundation is organising training programmes for imams and other religious leaders.
According to the programme schedule, divisional-level imam conferences and views exchange meetings will be held on January 12 in Rajshahi, January 14 in Rangpur, January 15 in Chattogram, January 17 in Dhaka, January 19 in Mymensingh, January 22 in Sylhet and January 24 in Khulna.
The events will be attended by divisional, district and upazila-level officials, vice-chancellors and senior academics, senior journalists, press club and business association leaders, NGO heads, religious leaders, representatives of civil society and other distinguished individuals.
The authorities believe that the views exchange meetings at divisional, district and upazila levels, along with consultations with key stakeholders, will play a vital role in enhancing public awareness and understanding of the referendum.
