The Bangladesh Bank has permitted businesses to import ten essential commodities on a deferred payment basis to ensure uninterrupted supply ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The goods eligible under this facility are rice, wheat, onion, pulse, edible oil, sugar, chickpea, pea, spices, and dates.

According to a circular issued today, the central bank decided to allow commercial imports of these items on usance terms of up to 90 days under supplier’s or buyer’s credit. The move aims to stabilize market prices and guarantee smooth availability of key food products during Ramadan.

The circular also noted that all other relevant regulations will remain unchanged. Banks have been instructed to inform their concerned clients about the new policy, which will remain effective until March 31, 2026.
