The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for registration of new political parties until June 22, allowing them to fulfill the necessary legal requirements to contest in the upcoming 13th general elections.

“Until Thursday, seven parties had submitted applications for registration, while 20 others requested more time. Considering the circumstances, the deadline has now been extended to June 22,” said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The extension follows a two-hour meeting earlier today between the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin. Sources familiar with the discussion said the NCP submitted several demands, including an appeal for more time to complete the registration process.

The previous deadline for application submission was set for today.

According to EC officials, the seven political parties that have already applied for registration are: Bangladesh Conservative Party (BCP), Janata Congress Party, Bangladesh Probashi Kalyanmoy Party, Bangladesh Justice Party (BJP), Bangladesh Trinamool Janata Party, Bangladesh Mukti Oikya Dal, and Bangladesh Janashakti Party.

In addition, three more parties—the Bangladesh Jatiya Bhumihin Party (BMLP), Bangladesh Republic Party, and Bangladesh Jana Jote Party (BJP)—have also submitted applications, bringing the total number of applicants to ten.
