The government has announced the names of 14 distinguished individuals and the Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team as recipients of the Ekushey Padak 2025, the country’s second-highest civilian award, in recognition of their contributions across various fields.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki revealed the list at a press conference held at the Bangladesh Secretariat today.
This year, five individuals have been selected in the category of Shilpakala (film, music, photography, and painting), one each in journalism, journalism and human rights, culture and education, education, science and technology, and social service, two in language and literature, and one in research. The Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team has been honored in the sports category.
Azizur Rahman (posthumously) will be awarded in the category of Shilpakala (film), while Ustad Nirad Baran Barua (posthumously) and Ferdous Ara have been selected in Shilpakala (music). Nasir Ali Mamun will be honored for photography, and Rokeya Sultana for painting.
Mahfuz Ullah (posthumously) will receive the award for journalism, while Mahmudur Rahman has been recognized for journalism and human rights.
In the category of culture and education, Dr. Shahidul Alam has been selected, while Dr. Niaz Zaman will receive the award for education. Mehedi Hasan Khan has been named for his contribution to science and technology, and Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury (posthumously) for social service.
Helal Hafiz (posthumously) and Shahidul Jahir (Md. Shahidul Haque) (posthumously) have been recognized for their contributions to language and literature.
Additionally, Moidul Hasan will receive the award for research, while the Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team has been honored in the sports category for their outstanding achievements.
The prestigious Ekushey Padak is awarded annually to individuals and organizations for significant contributions to various sectors, commemorating the spirit of the Language Movement.
