President of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GAP) Nurul Haque Nur has called for a mass procession from Chattogram demanding the banning of the Awami League (AL) as a political party.

Addressing a youth rally at Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram this afternoon, Nur, the former Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), alleged that a few political parties are advocating for AL’s participation in elections.

“We must build strong resistance to prevent AL from participating in elections built on the blood of students and the people,” he said. He also warned against supporting AL, Jubo League, or Chhatra League, stating that those who do so would be considered allies of fascism.

Nur announced that his party would organize a mass procession in Dhaka, if necessary, to push for banning AL.

Proposing an alternative, Nur advocated for an interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for two to three years, emphasizing Dr. Yunus’s potential to stabilize the country’s fragile economy.

He outlined six reform commissions on elections, media, the judicial system, and administrative structures, asserting that no election could take place without these reforms.

“The people will not give the government a blank check to remain in power. Support will come only if the government serves the people; otherwise, it will lose public backing,” Nur declared.

Calling for the creation of a “New Bangladesh” in line with public aspirations, Nur vowed that GAP, alongside students and the masses, would work to fulfill this vision.

GAP General Secretary Muhammad Rashed Khan and other central and local leaders also spoke at the rally.
