The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that more than 200,000 taxpayers have filed their income tax returns online, reflecting a rising trend among taxpayers seeking hassle-free compliance with tax regulations. The NBR’s e-return platform (www.etaxnbr.gov.bd) has registered approximately 1 million users, demonstrating growing interest in online filing.
The NBR encourages taxpayers to file their returns online, offering a streamlined and efficient experience. Individual taxpayers can access services on the portal, where they can complete and submit returns, make payments via internet banking, debit/credit card, or mobile banking, and obtain digital copies of their tax documents, including income tax certificates and TIN certificates.
To support this initiative, a call center (09643 7171 71) is now available during office hours to provide immediate assistance for e-return-related queries. Additionally, the NBR has conducted “Training of Trainers” (ToT) programs for IT representatives from various government departments, ensuring support for employees filing returns online.
Taxpayers can also report issues related to e-returns through the portal’s e-Tax Service option, with resolutions provided promptly. A video tutorial on e-filing is available on the NBR website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page, making it easier for taxpayers to navigate the system.
For secure registration, taxpayers must use a biometric SIM card linked to their national identity card. Verification of SIM registration can be done by dialing *16001#. Those without a biometric SIM can obtain one to complete registration.
NBR has issued a directive making e-filing mandatory for government employees within income tax circles in Dhaka and surrounding areas, as well as for employees in banks, telecom companies, and multinational corporations. The e-return system has been upgraded to improve user experience, making online filing more accessible and efficient than ever.
