Today, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus encouraged the people of Bangladesh to utilize e-return services and pay their income tax online, highlighting the convenience and importance of this new digital process.
“Fellow citizens, let me say a few words on income tax. The taxes you pay are crucial to driving our economy forward. However, I recognize the inconveniences people often face when paying taxes,” Yunus said in a video message from his press office.
Professor Yunus noted that, with recent measures, taxpayers no longer need to endure long queues at banks or physically visit tax offices. “You can now submit your income tax returns from home, alongside the payment,” he said. E-filing of tax returns is now mandatory for government employees in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur, as well as for officials in scheduled banks, mobile operators, and certain multinational firms.
He urged all eligible citizens to submit their tax returns and make payments online, encouraging a culture of digital compliance and competition among organizations across cities and districts for national recognition in e-filing.
Professor Yunus also called upon young people to assist taxpayers in learning the e-return process. “This is an opportunity for the youth to gain experience, which could be a step toward future entrepreneurship. Our aim is to fully digitize tax collection over time,” he added.
“I hope that from now on, your experience with income tax returns will be smoother and free of hassles,” he concluded.
