Home Ministry Forms 4-Member Taskforce to Probe Sagar-Runi Murder Case

The Ministry of Home Affairs has established a four-member taskforce to investigate the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, in compliance with a recent Supreme Court directive. A circular regarding the formation of the taskforce was issued today.

The taskforce has been instructed to submit its investigation report to the Supreme Court within six months. According to the circular, the taskforce is authorized to include additional members if necessary.

The taskforce will be led by the Chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) as its convener. The other members will include representatives from the Department of Police, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The representatives from the Department of Police and CID must hold a rank no lower than additional deputy inspector general (DIG), while RAB’s representative will be no lower than director rank, the circular specified.
