BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the interim government to implement practical and stringent measures to address the rising prices of essential commodities, which he said is causing severe hardship for the country’s farmers, workers, day laborers, low-income earners, small traders, and the middle class.

Speaking virtually at a discussion marking the silver jubilee of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF), Rahman noted that while the cost of living has surged, incomes have not kept pace. “When people can’t afford a full meal every day, it’s hard to pacify them with mere words,” he remarked.

The event, held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the capital, was also attended by ZRF Overseas Committee Chief Adviser Dr. Zubaida Rahman, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and ZRF Executive Director Dr. Farhad Halim Donar.

As the president of ZRF, Rahman further suggested that the interim government consider expanding its advisory council to ensure smoother functioning, if necessary.
