The government has initiated the Open Market Sale (OMS) programme, offering 10 essential agricultural products at affordable prices across various locations in the capital. The initiative was formally inaugurated today by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Commerce, at the Directorate General of Food Office on Abdul Ghani Road.
Lt. Gen. (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministries of Agriculture and Home, attended the event as a special guest, alongside Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin and Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian.
In his address, Dr. Salehuddin urged for public cooperation to ensure the programme’s success, emphasizing the government’s commitment to making essential products accessible at lower prices. Lt. Gen. Chowdhury highlighted that the collaboration between the Ministries of Agriculture and Food aims to provide essential items like eggs, potatoes, onions, and vegetables at affordable rates.
Initially, the programme will operate in 20 locations across the capital, with trucks selling potatoes at Tk 30 per kilogram, eggs at Tk 130 per dozen, onions at Tk 70 per kilogram, and green vegetables in various packages. Key distribution points include Khadya Bhaban, Manik Mia Avenue, Mirpur-10, and Mohammadpur, among others.
