Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has urged Russian entrepreneurs to step up their investments in Bangladesh. This call came during a farewell meeting with Russian Ambassador Alexander V Mantytskiy at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon.

Ambassador Mantytskiy, reflecting on his more than three-year tenure in Bangladesh, described his time as productive and full of significant developments. He provided an update on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, a project heavily financed by Russia and managed by Russian experts, which is expected to begin generating power next year.

The discussions also covered Gazprom’s ongoing exploration efforts in Bangladesh, Russia’s role in supplying wheat and fertilizer, and the settlement of outstanding debts related to the Rooppur plant.

Chief Adviser Yunus expressed his appreciation for Russia’s contributions to Bangladesh’s energy sector and acknowledged its key role as a supplier of essential commodities like wheat and fertilizer. He assured the Ambassador that the interim government would resolve the financial issues concerning the Rooppur project.

Welcoming further Russian investments, Yunus said, “We will work together to strengthen our collaboration.”

Also present at the meeting were Lamiya Morshed, Senior Secretary and Head of SDG Affairs, and Md Abul Hasan Mridha, Director General of the Foreign Ministry.
