Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) can now avail loans of up to Tk10 lakh from banks without the need for collateral, based on their relationship with the bank.
In a circular issued today, Bangladesh Bank (BB) announced the decision to expand financial access for NRBs, allowing banks to offer loans for legitimate purposes through the existing banker-customer relationship.
The circular emphasized that to be eligible for this facility, NRB borrowers must be regular remitters through official channels.
The loan amount will be determined based on the borrower’s needs or Tk10 lakh, whichever is lower.
Repayment of the loan must come from inward remittances sent by the borrower working abroad. Banks will continue to follow standard credit norms, prudential regulations, and conduct due diligence, the circular added.
