A Dhaka court has placed senior journalists Mozammel Babu, Shyamal Dutta, and former president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Shahriar Kabir, on a seven-day remand in connection with two murder cases.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah issued the remand order after they were presented in court with a 10-day remand request, according to a sub-inspector present at the court.

Shyamal Dutta was remanded in a case related to the death of 31-year-old Mohammad Fazlu during the mass uprising in Dhaka’s Bhasantek area. On September 11, Mohammad Sabuj, Fazlu’s elder brother, filed the case with Bhasantek Police Station against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 25 journalists, and 139 others. Fazlu was reportedly shot around 7:00 pm on August 5 during a rally celebrating the fall of the Hasina-led government near Diganta Filling Station in Bhasantek.

Mozammel Babu, managing director and editor-in-chief of Ekattor TV, and Shahriar Kabir were placed on remand in a separate case filed at Ramna Model Police Station over the death of domestic worker Liza during the quota reform protests in Ramna on July 18.

Shyamal and Mozammel were arrested yesterday in Mymensingh, while Shahriar Kabir was detained from his residence in Banani.
