Former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Eskaton area of the city late last night, according to a statement from the RAB. Hossain was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. He faces charges related to firing on students and civilians, as well as killings, during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5.
Adabar Thana’s Officer-in-Charge, Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan, confirmed that a garment worker named Rubel was killed during the movement, leading Rubel’s father, Rafikul Islam, to file a case involving 148 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Farhad Hossain.
Hossain, who served as a Member of Parliament for Meherpur-1 for three consecutive terms, was appointed as a full minister during the 12th Parliament.
