The interim government has decided to sell 52 imported luxury cars to the recently dissolved 12th Jatiya Sangsad members. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, who advises the Ministries of Finance and Commerce, announced this after a meeting with business leaders at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
These cars have yet to be released from the ports and were imported before the recent political changes that led to the removal of the Awami League-led government. The government wants to sell these duty-free cars to collect customs taxes and avoid losing money if the cars are returned.
The National Board of Revenue will handle the sale of these vehicles. Sources say that most of the cars are from Toyota’s Land Cruiser series and will be sold at market prices with easy payment options available.
