On Sunday night, a violent confrontation erupted between Dhaka University students and Ansar personnel at the Secretariat, resulting in multiple injuries. The incident began to unfold shortly after 9:00 PM when reports surfaced that key leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, including Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, were being detained at the Secretariat. In response, Dhaka University students quickly mobilized, gathering at the Raju Bhashkorjo monument on campus. From there, they marched towards the Secretariat, demanding the immediate release of the detained coordinators. As the students approached the Secretariat, tensions escalated, leading to a fierce clash between them and the Ansar personnel. The confrontation intensified with both groups engaging in back-and-forth chases, which soon turned violent. Despite police efforts to manage the chaos, the situation spiraled out of control. By 9:45 PM, the Ansar personnel were forced to retreat. The protesting students then took up positions in front of the National Press Club, located near the Secretariat, continuing their demonstration. Around 10:00 PM, Bangladesh Army personnel arrived at the scene to restore order, eventually bringing the situation under control. However, as of 10:40 PM, the students remained outside the Secretariat, chanting slogans against the Awami League and Ansar members. Earlier in the evening, one of the movement’s coordinators, Hasnat Abdullah, posted a video on Facebook urging people to gather at Raju Bhashkorjo. In his video message, he claimed, “Autocratic forces, disguised as Ansar, are trying to return. Despite our demands being met, we have all been detained at the Secretariat!” He also accused the Ansar members of brutally beating students. Saidul, a final-year student at Dhaka University, recounted that some students had their legs broken during the clash. Additionally, Asif Hawlader, a correspondent for Prothom Alo, was assaulted by Ansar personnel and was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
