Bangladesh national women’s football team wrapped up their AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers campaign in dominating fashion, crushing Turkmenistan 7-0 in their final Group C match held Saturday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
Having already secured qualification for the final round with earlier wins against Bahrain and host nation Myanmar, the girls in red and green continued their impressive run with a commanding performance against the group’s lowest-ranked side.
Despite the match being a mere formality, head coach Peter Butler fielded an unchanged starting XI and the team showed no signs of complacency.
Bangladesh got off to a flying start with Sapna Rani opening the scoring in the 3rd minute. Shamsunnahar doubled the lead in the 6th minute and netted again in the 13th minute to make it 3-0. Monika added a fourth in the 16th minute, followed by Ritu Porna’s strike just a minute later. Tohura Khatun made it 6-0 in the 20th minute, and Ritu Porna, who has been a standout throughout the group stage, completed the rout with her second goal in the 40th minute.
The second half remained goalless as Turkmenistan came back more organized, preventing any further damage.
Earlier in the campaign, Bangladesh thrashed Bahrain 7-0 in their opener and secured a crucial 2-1 win over Myanmar, with Ritu Porna Chakma scoring both goals in that match.
Turkmenistan had previously suffered an 8-0 loss to Myanmar and drew 2-2 with Bahrain.
The Bangladesh women’s team is expected to return home early Monday (July 7), bringing with them a historic achievement — qualification for the final stage of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.
