Jahangirnagar University (JU) students staged a protest on Sunday night, blocking the Dhaka-Aricha Highway to demand the swift trial of recent rape incidents across the country.

Under the banner of Dhorson Birodhi Manch (Anti-Rape Platform), the demonstrators marched toward the highway near the university’s main entrance at around 10:45 pm, where they staged a blockade for 45 minutes.

Addressing the protest, Ayesha Siddika Meghla, a member of the platform, expressed concern over the alarming rise in rape cases. “It is disgraceful that we must take to the streets to demand justice. We urge the interim government to take immediate and visible action against rape,” she said.

Spokesperson Meher Afroze Shawli echoed similar concerns, stating, “The increasing incidents of rape are not only a threat to law and order but also a disgrace to our societal values. The government must take strict measures to address the situation promptly.”
