Several Bangladeshi firms have signed agreements with Starlink to facilitate the setup of ground earth stations in the country. The collaboration includes space allocation, construction support, and infrastructure maintenance, according to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing today.
A team from the US-based telecommunications provider is currently visiting Bangladesh, identifying potential locations for the stations. Some local firms are offering their own properties, while Starlink is also considering sites within the Hitech Park. Discussions on site selection and implementation are ongoing, said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.
Taiyeb expressed optimism that Starlink would provide reliable, high-speed internet across Bangladesh, including remote regions, coastal areas, and northern districts, unaffected by load shedding or natural disasters. The satellite service is expected to enhance digital economic activities for entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and SMEs, particularly in areas with limited telecom-grade fiber coverage.
“We aim to establish a viable implementation model with Starlink within the next 90 days,” Taiyeb stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has personally invited SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to visit Bangladesh and officially launch the Starlink service. In a letter dated February 19, Prof. Yunus emphasized the importance of this technology for young Bangladeshis and assigned High Representative Dr. Khalilur Rahman to coordinate with the SpaceX team for a smooth rollout within the next 90 working days.
Earlier, on February 13, Prof. Yunus held a detailed phone discussion with Musk, exploring collaboration opportunities and expediting efforts to bring Starlink’s satellite internet services to Bangladesh.
