Expatriate Bangladeshis sent a record $2.64 billion in remittances in December 2023, marking a 32% increase compared to the same month last year. Of this, around $2 billion came from wage earners.
For the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25 (July to December), remittances totaled $13.78 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 27.56% compared to $10.80 billion during the same period last year.
A senior official from the central bank attributed the upward trend to government initiatives aimed at streamlining legal channels and encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to remit money back home.
