Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser, landed in Cairo, Egypt, at 11 a.m. local time today (Wednesday) to participate in the D-8 Summit.
Mohamed Shimi, Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, welcomed him at Cairo International Airport, according to a statement from the chief adviser’s press wing.
Following his arrival, Professor Yunus had a short discussion with the Egyptian minister.
The Chief Adviser departed from Dhaka late last night for his two-day official visit to Cairo, where he will attend the D-8 Summit scheduled for December 19.
An Emirates Airlines flight carrying Professor Yunus and his delegation took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 a.m., as confirmed by CA Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder to BSS.
The summit focuses on the theme “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy.”
Established in 1997, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation works to foster development collaboration among its member countries.
The group includes significant Muslim-majority nations such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Collectively, these nations represent approximately 14% of the world’s population.
