Since 2018, Practical Action has been collaborating closely with the Kalaroa Municipality to implement various developmental projects. Continuing this partnership, the organization is currently executing the Finnish Mondial project. Under this initiative, a secondary dumping station for household waste and an unplanted bed for fecal waste have been completed. The inauguration ceremony for these activities was held on December 18, 2024. The event was formally inaugurated by Kalaroa Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Executive Officer), Mr. Md. Zahurul Islam. Among the attendees were Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman Munir, Sub-Assistant Engineer of the Upazila Public Health Engineering Department, Kalaroa Municipality’s Executive Officer Mr. Tushar Kanti Das, Assistant Engineer Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Conservancy Inspector Mr. Md. Nazmul Islam, and others. The entire program was conducted by Practical Action representative Mr. Mrinal Sarkar.

The secondary dumping station provides a designated location for residents to dispose of household waste instead of dumping it randomly. The new unplanted bed in the fecal waste plant will produce compost within 14 days, which, when mixed with household waste, holds great potential for creating co-compost. This co-compost can significantly enhance agricultural yield, benefiting farmers and ensuring proper waste management for both types of waste.

During the inauguration, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer stated that more dumping stations are necessary in Kalaroa Municipality to ensure proper waste management. He emphasized the importance of utilizing resources effectively through government and private initiatives. He concluded by expressing gratitude to Practical Action for this commendable initiative.
