Officials from Bangladesh and Malaysia have committed to collaborating on expanding the market for halal products and enhancing the halal ecosystem.
This decision was announced during a meeting held today at the Islamic Foundation’s (IF) headquarters. The meeting, organized by IF’s Halal Certification Department, included representatives from Malaysia’s Serunai, the Islamic Development Bank, and other stakeholders, according to a press release.
Md. Saiful Islam, Director General of the Islamic Foundation, inaugurated the event.
The meeting focused on various aspects of the “Reverse Linkage Project” between Bangladesh and Malaysia, aimed at developing the “Diagnostic Mission Halal Ecosystem.”
Speakers highlighted that this project would strengthen Bangladesh’s halal ecosystem and expand its halal market. It seeks to foster cooperation by sharing relevant knowledge, technology, and expertise between the two countries, while also exploring opportunities for trade and investment.
They emphasized that the project would enhance the Islamic Foundation’s capacity to issue halal certificates and play a vital role in accelerating the growth of the halal ecosystem through cross-country collaboration.
Dr. Md. Abu Saleh Patwary, Deputy Director of IF’s Halal Certification Department, presented the keynote speech.
The meeting was attended by Mohd Jabal and Nabil Zarini from Serunai Halal Centre of Excellence, as well as representatives from Bangladesh’s Ministries of Religious Affairs, Commerce, Food, and Fisheries and Livestock; the Economic Relations Division; the National Board of Revenue; the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry; the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority; Islami Bank Bangladesh; and the Islamic Foundation.
