Bangladesh has taken a pivotal step in the global fight against hunger and poverty as a founding member of the newly launched Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The landmark initiative, unveiled at the G20 Summit under Brazil’s presidency, aims to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030.
Bangladesh has also been named to the prestigious Board of Champions of the Alliance, which unites 148 nations, international organizations, and NGOs under a shared mission of inclusive development and human dignity.
In a video address at the G20 Social Summit on November 15, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, shared his vision of a “World of Three Zeros” to foster equitable and sustainable development. He emphasized the nation’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key strategies of the Alliance include proven measures such as cash transfer programs and school meal initiatives, demonstrating a practical and inclusive approach to tackling poverty and hunger worldwide.
Earlier, Sharmin S. Murshid, Adviser of Women and Children Affairs, represented Bangladesh at the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Women Empowerment in Brasília, highlighting Bangladesh’s efforts in gender equality and inclusive policy development.
Notably, Bangladesh is the only Asian nation invited by Brazil, the G20 Presidency of 2024, as a special guest in working groups on Women Empowerment and Climate Change. Bangladesh was also invited to join the task force on poverty and hunger, underscoring its growing global influence in addressing critical global issues.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Brazil played a vital role in elevating the country’s international standing within the G20 framework and securing its recognition as a leader in sustainable development.
Bangladesh’s inclusion in the Global Alliance solidifies its position as a key player in global efforts to reduce inequality, address hunger, and foster impactful partnerships for a sustainable future.
