Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul has been appointed to oversee the Speaker’s financial and administrative responsibilities as the position remains vacant. This decision was made at a meeting of the Council of Advisors, chaired by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Advisor’s Office.
Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed journalists at the Foreign Service Academy on the meeting’s outcomes, informing them that Dr. Nazrul would temporarily carry out these duties due to the current vacancy in the Speaker’s post.
A press release from the Cabinet Division confirmed that the Council of Advisors approved the draft of the “National Parliament Secretariat (Interim Special Provision) Ordinance, 2024.” This ordinance follows the resignation of the then-Prime Minister on August 5 and the subsequent dissolution of the 12th National Parliament by the President, which led to the Speaker’s resignation.
