Each family of those who lost their lives in the July-August anti-discrimination movement will be provided Tk 30 lakh for rehabilitation, as announced by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation.
Mahfuj Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, shared this during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this evening. He added that, if required, additional funds will be provided following proper verification.
Alam also clarified that the rehabilitation effort extends not only to the families of the martyrs but also to those who were injured during the movement. He mentioned that the government would take concrete steps in this regard in the coming week.
At the same briefing, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, announced that injured individuals needing advanced treatment abroad would be sent overseas. She noted that a list of seven individuals has already been prepared, and the government is committed to ensuring that more will receive support if necessary.
She emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward any negligence in the treatment of the injured. Public and private hospitals across Bangladesh have been instructed to provide free medical care to the injured, with refunds being issued to those who previously paid for treatment.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, was also present at the briefing.
