In Chapainawabganj, the water levels in the Padma, Mahananda, and Punarbhaba rivers have continued to rise, marking a further increase in the past 24 hours. The levels rose by 7 cm in both the Padma and Mahananda rivers, and by 11 cm in the Punarbhaba river. Despite this, the rivers remain below the danger level, with the Padma flowing 1.20 meters, the Mahananda 1.30 meters, and the Punarbhaba 1.71 meters below their respective danger thresholds.
This rise is part of a broader trend over the past 10 days, with upstream water flows from India contributing to the surge due to recent heavy rainfall. Unfortunately, the increase has caused significant damage to agriculture, submerging low-lying areas and chars along the rivers. Around 1,354 hectares of crops have been affected, impacting more than 4,500 farmers growing Aush rice, pulses, and onions.
Authorities remain hopeful that the water levels will begin to decrease soon.
